Competency assessments for midwifery skills of providers and tutors, and barriers and facilitators in providing quality midwifery services in India

A study undertaken to form the roadmap for implementation of national midwifery guidelines (2019). The study developed and validated questionnaires for measuring midwifery competencies of clinical midwifes (practitioners) and midwifery teaching competence of midwifery educators in public and private sectors of Assam and Karnataka. FRHS is leading the study in ASSAM and Karnataka whereas its partners IIPHG leaded in Gujarat and MAMTA-HIMC leaded in Bihar UP and Telangana.

Primary Investigator at FRHS conceptualized the study and developed the protocol along with PIs from two agencies mentioned above. The PI of FRHS has also developed the training module, trained the research teams for Assam and Karnataka, supervised and undertook data collection. From 700 nursing educators and 800 nursing practitioners.

Measuring midwifery competence of educators in selected institutes in public and private sectors.

Measuring midwifery competence of practitioners in selected health facilities in public and private sectors.

Understanding opportunity and barriers of sustaining midwifery skills and teaching them to midwifery students.

Midwifery Syllabus

Conducting content analysis of midwifery syllabi of different midwifery courses of India against international standards.
